I started my studio because I was seeing so many basic portraits within the entertainment business in the Bay Area. I work with my clients to match their identity, style and create portraits that will get you noticed.

Creative Portraits – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Where do you shoot?

We do individual sessions at our Emeryville studio (across the street from Pixar). We can shoot anywhere in the Bay Area and Silicon Valley for sessions with more than 5 people for a travel fee. If you are outside of the Bay Area please contact us as we would love to work with you and figure out a plan.

What color backdrops can we use?

We can use any color backdrop you want for your headshots and we always have a variety of colors and styles in stock with no extra charges. White and black backdrops will always be in stock. If you would like a specific color backdrop to match your brand or identity there will be a $100 fee to purchase the backdrop.

What about environmental shots?

Absolutely, we can do environmental shots. Environmental portraits have the potential to tell an amazing story, but can be a bit more complicated and require more set-up given they are not done in a controlled environment like a studio. As such, you have slightly less actual shooting time on location vs. in a studio.

What type of lighting will be used?

Lighting is the key to any great image. We use some of the best lighting in the industry and have a lot of flexibility and options to light a portrait in many ways. It is helpful to discuss any specific type of lighting you would like beforehand, so we can ensure that we are efficient on the day of the shoot.

Will there be makeup provided?

We work with many professional makeup artists and can introduce you to some of the folks we work with but you would need to pay them directly for their services.

How many looks do I get?

You can get many looks per session, but keep in mind the time limit of the package you are signing up for. The more time spent changing wardrobe, the less time we are shooting / taking pictures. We can discuss your outfit before the shoot to make sure you will look your best and fit your brand identity. If you would like more time for the session to fit in more looks, we can do that with an extra fee.

How are images delivered?

All proofs and final images are delivered online for quick and easy access.

How many images do I get?

It depends on the package you have signed up for. It will vary anywhere from 1 final retouched image – 6+ retouched image. We can provide additional retouched images for a fee.

What is your turn around time?

Typically, we deliver proofs from the session within 24-72 hours. The final retouched images arrive within a week after making your final selections. Rush orders are possible with an additional fee. Larger group session timing will be longer based on the number of people photographed.

What are my rights to the image?

A standard license will be for use on your company’s website, social media pages, event presentation bio photos, and marketing materials (direct mail, email promos, etc.) Third party use is not allowed in any way. That means you can’t give the image to anyone else to use in any way or use in any type of media. Additionally, you can’t use the images in any paid advertising. These licenses are available if you need them at an extra fee.

Cancellation / rescheduling policy

A: Given scheduling complexity and the pre-production lighting set-up required in advance of the shoot I have a strict cancellation policy

B: Rescheduling with less than 48 hours prior to your shoot there will be a $75 rescheduling fee

C: If you cancel your shoot less than 72 hours prior to your shoot you will lose your deposit

D: Under a refund circumstance, I would need to charge a 25% fee to cover refund and processing fees. Refund format will be given via PayPal, Zelle or Venmo and not a direct refund to your credit card
